I am a Certified Addiction Counselor through the State of Florida. I have been working, volunteering and interning in the field of addictions for more than 15 years. During this time I have had a range of responsibilities including behavioral health tech and recovery support specialist all while working on my education and board certification for addictions counseling.
I view addiction as a primary illness rather than as a symptom of any other problem. The illness is viewed as treatable. It is also my believe that recovery from addiction involves healing all dimensions of a person – physical, intellectual, emotion, social, vocational, and spiritual. The process involves an improvement in self awareness and personal growth. There is a gradual realization and acceptable of the fact that recovery is a life-long process which demands ongoing commitment.
I have maintained continuous recovery for over 23 years through active involvement in the self-help community and my commitment to make a difference in the lives of those that continue to suffer from this disease – one day at a time.
