Each individual will be assessed comprehensively by an substance abuse specialized physician and therapist using a biopsychosocial assessment, the Addiction Severity Index (ASI), a screening for drug and alcohol abuse to include toxicology testing, input from our chemical dependency counselors, consultations with loved ones, and follow up with other medical professionals as indicated.

Obtained data will be examined in the context of the placement criteria developed by the American Society of Addictive Medicine (ASAM) and published as ASAM PPC-2R and the ASAM CRITERIA. Patient placement will be determined by closeness of fit to the published placement criteria. This evaluation will guide recommendations in determining treatment options.

Awakening Recovery Center’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is both a structured and flexible option for patients requiring substance abuse treatment. You will receive treatment at our rehab center near Jacksonville, Florida during the day (approximately 4-5 hours per day) but return home in the evening.

While this program involves only daytime participation, it is physician-led and patients are closely monitored throughout the month-long program, typically. Admission to the Awakening PHP is based on a comprehensive assessment to ensure each patient receives the exact type of care they need.

The Awakening Intensive Outpatient Program is for individuals who meet the ASAM criteria for IOP treatment. Individuals will be provided individual therapy sessions weekly for the duration of the program-approximately 8-12 weeks depending on severity and need. In addition, each person will be expected to attend cognitive-based group therapy three to four times per week during their participation. The IOP groups are facilitated by a multidisciplinary team of qualified and experienced Addictions Professionals.

These group sessions utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), motivational enhancement therapy, education on the neurobiological imbalances created by addiction, introduction to the multiple sober support systems AA and NA and others as well as emphasizing learning to deal with urges/cravings, a major part of learning relapse prevention. Based on the needs of the patient, the weekly individual sessions may be used for individual and/or significant-other therapy. IOP is for those individuals who have persisted in their substance use despite recurrent negative consequences, major life or health crisis from substance abuse, or who have had problems with relapsing following attempts at abstinence.

This program includes group and one-on-one counseling with our experienced and well-rounded staff of physicians, therapists and chemical dependency counselors.
